HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–Heavy fog hampered a good visual view of the Mercer Generating Station implosion this morning but the ground shook as far as eight miles away in Allentown, NJ around 8 am
The old coal fired power plant is being demolished to redevelop the area into warehousing. The planned event was kept quiet until yesterday when Hamilton Township Emergency Management released a statement that loud noises may be heard coming from the site due to demolition work.
A small crowd gathered in the area behind the Watson House, The John A. Roebling Memorial Park and Watson Woods to try and get a glimpse of the implosion. Even at 0.56 of a mile the fog was too great to really get a good look at the spectacle.
