HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–Mayor Jeff Martin is excited to announce The Great Hamilton Takeout on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 in collaboration with the numerous eateries spread throughout the municipality.
Hamilton Township is home to more than 200 eating establishments, including bakeries, coffee shops, pizzerias, delis and restaurants. As one of the hardest hit industries during the Coronavirus pandemic, The Great Hamilton Takeout campaign was created as a means to help drive additional business to our local restaurants in their time of need.
Many of Hamilton’s restaurants are owned and operated by our fellow Hamiltonians. They are also known for their generosity – giving back to various sectors of our community over the years and to many frontline workers during the pandemic. Hamilton Township is encouraging all local eateries to join in on the campaign by spreading the word amongst their customers and potentially even creating their own special menu or food item for the day.
“Hamilton’s restaurants have been an integral part of the fabric of our great town. They have given back to our community over the years – donating to our sports teams, our schools, non-profits, various other organizations and events,” stated Mayor Jeff Martin. “Now it is our turn to be there for them. I ask those who are able, to join me in giving back by ordering takeout, curbside or delivery from one or more of our local food establishments throughout the day. Together we can show our restaurants and their employees that we are in this together, we are Hamilton Proud!”
Throughout COVID-19 restaurant patrons have turned to takeout, curbside and delivery when their kitchens are in need of a break. Takeout does not have to be limited to just dinner – it can be breakfast and lunch or even dessert. On Wednesday, May 27th it is our turn to show our local restaurants that we will be there for them in their time of need, to show them that “Hope Is In Hamilton”. Residents are encouraged to order take out from one of our many restaurants on May 27th and post their meals on social media with the hashtags #GreatHamiltonTakeOut and #HopeIsInHamilton.
I want to support our local restaurants but this sounds like a terrible idea to me. Does anyone remember all the problems with take-out on Mother’s Day? Why would we do this to the restaurants again? Why not spread the orders out over the course of the week then bombard them on one particular day?
