TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–The NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife is joining fish and wildlife agencies nationwide to alert consumers about aquarium products that may be infested with invasive Zebra Mussels. Zebra mussels are regarded as one of the most destructive invasive species in North America.
For more information about the consumer alert and disposal/cleaning methods visit the US Fish and Wildlife Site.
Zebra mussels can quickly take over once they get established in a waterbody and cause significant damage including disrupting the food chain, changing the chemistry of the water, clogging water intake and delivery systems and damaging boats.
Several major pet product retailers, including Petco and PetSmart, have proactively removed these products from their shelves.
The Division urges anyone who has purchased a moss ball within the past several weeks to strictly follow U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) guidance on how to properly disinfect them and clean aquarium systems.
TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–Mayor W. Reed Gusciora announced today that the City of Trenton received more than $3 million in COVID-19 related aid from the N.J. Department of Community Affair’s (DCA) Local Government Emergency Relief Fund.
These funds reimburse local municipalities for financial losses incurred from combatting the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the $3 million, $1.9 million went to public safety-related salaries and overtime for City health department and other emergency personnel, including police and fire. The remainder of the funds went to COVID-19 testing, cleaning and sanitizing city properties and vehicles, personal protective equipment (PPE), thermometers and thermal scanners, and telework expenses.
The funds are administered through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
“We’re grateful for the work of our first responders who have battled the pandemic on the front lines for nearly a year now” said Mayor Gusciora. “Thanks to the CARES Act and critical assistance from DCA, the City of Trenton can recover a large portion of these costs, leaving us in a better position to emerge from this crisis in the best way possible.”

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP (MERCER)– A Hamilton man is facing multiple charges, including weapons and drug offenses, after pulling a gun and threatening to shoot someone in an argument Sunday afternoon.
Hamilton Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of William Street around 3:12 pm on March 4th, on a reported male with a handgun threatening another male. When officers arrived, they spoke to the victim, who stated an argument ensued with a male over a parking complaint.
During the argument, a male exited the drivers seat of the vehicle, pulled a handgun from his waistband, and threatened to shoot the victim. The suspect then got back into the vehicle and fled the scene with two male passengers.
The victim was able to provide officers with a description of the suspect as well as a picture of the vehicle in which the suspect fled , described as a tan Lincoln. Additional responding officers located the vehicle a short time later in the area of Mary Street and Parkinson Avenue occupied by three males. All three males were ordered out of the vehicle and the driver was identified as Hamilton resident Nathaniel Arrington, 32 years of age.

The tan Lincoln was towed to Hamilton Police Headquarters, where a search warrant was applied for and granted. During the search, officers located a loaded Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun, along with suspected cocaine and ecstasy inside of the vehicle.
Arrington was charged with terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain persons not to have a weapon, possession of weapons and controlled dangerous substance (CDS) offenses, distribution of CDS within 1000 feet of school property, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
