TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–Sometime before 1:00 p.m. Trenton Fire Department responded to 1st Block of Tucker Street for a report of workers that struck an ammonia tank. Fire crews arrived and assessed the situation and worked to mitigate the problem. Due to the size of the problem the NJ Department of Environmental Protection responded to the scene as well Trenton EMS and Signal 22 Canteen Unit. Firefighters worked thought the afternoon and it was decided to evacuate the 11-story Bernice J. Munce Tower at the corner of N. Willow and Tucker Street as well as nearby homes. Trenton Police requested several other police departments to assist in the evacuation. Buses were also called to the scene to transport the residents to nearby shelters until the situation is mitigated.
