Three Others Have Died From Trenton Shootings/Stabbings Increasing Trenton Homicide Total To 18

TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–The Mercer County Prosecutors Office has confirmed that three Trenton homicide victims have passed after being hospitalized for their injuries. 

Jared Anderson died on May 29, 2023.  Anderson was located and admitted to Capital Health Hospital on April 12, 2023, for gunshot wounds.  Around 5:45 p.m. April 12, 2023, Trenton Police, Trenton EMS, Paramedics and Trenton Fire Department all responded to the area of Spring and Calhoun Streets for reports of multiple people shot. Two victims were transported to the Trauma Center at Captial Health Regional Medical Center

Anderson’s death is being investigated by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Trenton Police Department.


The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department are investigating a stabbing homicide that occurred on Monday June 19, 2023.   At approximately 10:45 pm, an ambulance was dispatched to Edgewood Avenue on the report of a person stabbed in the chest.  The victim Ernest Denard was located at the scene and transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment, Mr. Denard later died of his injuries.  The investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information is asked to contact MCHTF Detective Sergeant Roberto Reyes or Detective Jennifer Eyster at 609-989-6406.  Information can also be emailed to mchtftips@mercercounty.org


In addition, Louis Washington died on June 21, 2023, as a result of injuries suffered from the June 15, 2023, shooting on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The shooting incident occurred at approximately 3:08 p.m., Trenton Police responded to a Shot Spotter activation for multiple rounds in the 600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Trenton.  Three victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.  Louis Washington and James Junior Journigan, both later died of their injuries.

The investigation into both deaths is ongoing and being conducted by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Trenton Police Department.

The recent deaths have brought the total number of Trenton homicide victims so far for 2023 to seventeen.
