LAKEWOOD, NJ (OCEAN)–Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Lakewood Township Police Chief Gregory Meyer announced that on November 19, 2023, at approximately 7:45 a.m., Officers from the Lakewood Township Police Department were dispatched to the area of 4th Avenue and Forest Avenue, for a report of a suspicious item attached to a utility pole. The New Jersey State Police Bomb Disposal Unit were notified and secured the device.
“The device was found to be inert and nonexplosive. There is no danger to the public and this remains an active and ongoing investigation,” Prosecutor Billhimer stated.

HOPEWELL, NJ (MERCER)–Police say that on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 6:25 p.m., Hopewell Township Police units were dispatched to a motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash on E. Broad St. at the intersection with Elm St. Officers arrived on scene, found the pedestrian injured and provided aid along with incoming EMS personnel.
The pedestrian, an approximately 48 year old Hopewell Borough man, sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance from the scene for further medical evaluation and treatment. The pedestrian remains in critical but stable condition with several severe head injuries.
The driver, a 61-year-old Lambertville man, remained on scene and cooperated with police during the on-scene investigation. The driver was not injured in the crash.
The initial investigation indicates that the vehicle was traveling west on E. Broad St. and struck the pedestrian who was crossing E. Broad St. at the crosswalk.
The crash is being investigated by Officer Robert Voorhees and Detective Chris Collins of the Hopewell Township Police Department, as well as the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
E. Broad St. was closed during the initial investigation but was opened shortly thereafter.

EWING (Mercer) – A single-vehicle crash left the driver hurt and a utility pole snapped in half this afternoon (Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023). Ewing Township police, firefighters and EMS personnel were dispatched to the 500 block of Grand Avenue at 12:37 p.m. for a reported overturned vehicle. Emergency crews arrived to find the vehicle resting on its roof in front of the West Trenton branch U.S. Post Office. An adjacent utility pole that had been struck by the vehicle was broken off near its base and left hanging from the overhead wires which it had previously supported. The driver was not trapped but was injured and was transported to hospital via a Ewing EMS ambulance. Grand Avenue was closed between West Upper Ferry Road and Summit Avenue for a time while a tow truck removed the wreckage and utility workers worked to make the area around the damaged pole safe. The cause of the crash was under investigation by Ewing police.
