BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ (BURLINGTON)–Sgt. Alejandro Goez from the New Jersey State Police told MidJersey.news that the accident was reported at 3:35 p.m. at the intersection of US 130 and Groveville Road.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a trooper driving a marked Ford Explorer was traveling north on US 130 approaching the intersection with Groveville Road and a Volvo C70 was traveling west on Groveville Road. The driver of the Volvo failed to obey the traffic signal and entered the intersection with US 130. As a result, the front of the troop car struck the left side of the Volvo. During the collision, the driver of the Volvo was ejected and struck the front of a Toyota Camry traveling south on US 130.
The trooper sustained moderate injuries and was taken to an area hospital. The driver of the Volvo, a 54-year-old female, sustained serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital. The driver of the Toyota was not injured. The accident remains under investigation.

BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ (BURLINGTON)–A serious accident occurred at the intersection of Route 130 and Groveville Road around 3:39 p.m. It was reported that victims of the crash were transported to the Trauma Center at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. Bordentown Police, EMS and Bordentown fire departments, along with paramedics responded to the scene to provide aid.
Currently Route 130 south bound at the intersection of Groveville Road is closed for the investigation.

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–The Robbinsville and Bordentown Township Fire Departments and EMS were dispatched to Mile Post 57 for a multi vehicle accident in the outer roadway at 3:23 p.m. It appears that injuries were minor, and it was unclear if the person who reported non-life-threating injuries was transported. NJ State Police is investigating the crash. Traffic was backed up close to two miles until the vehicles were towed from the scene.

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–Around 6:00 p.m. the Robbinsville Township and Bordentown Township Fire Departments were dispatched to the area of mile post 58 south bound for a car fire. Robbinsville firefighters found the car on fire on the right shoulder of the outer lanes at mile post 57.5 on the Crosswicks-Hamilton Square Road Bridge. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire with a 1 3/4″ hose line. Firefighters were on scene for a short time until the vehicle was towed from the scene. No further information is available at this time.

At 3:36 p.m. Bordentown Township and Robbinsville Township firefighters responded to the area of Mile Post 55 for a tractor trailer into a bridge at mile post 55.08 south bound and another vehicle on the right shoulder also involved in the crash. Robbinsville EMS, Florence EMS, Virtua Paramedics also responded to the scene. Robbinsville EMS and Paramedics transported the truck driver to the Trauma Center at Captial Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. It was unclear where Florence EMS transported their patient.

At 4:22 p.m. a vehicle rear ended a box truck on the New Jersey Turnpike Outer Roadway in the area of Mile Post 59 in front of the Richard Stockton, 6S Service Area. Robbinsville Township and Bordentown Township firefighters also responded to that scene. It appeared the traffic backup from the first accident was quite possibly a contributing factor. Allentown EMS, Captial Health Paramedics responded to the scene, Captial Health-Allentown EMS transported to RWJ at Hamilton Hospital with an injury from that accident.
At 5:46 p.m. Robbinsville Township Fire Department, Hightstown Fire Department, Hightstown First Aid Squad, Capital Health Paramedics and Robbinsville EMS responded to a crash at Mile Post 63.3 South Bound on the inner roadway. One injury was reported in that crash. A private ambulance that was already on the Turnpike stopped to help with Captial Health Paramedics, the private ambulance transported the patient to the local hospital for treatment with minor injuries.

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–Bordentown Township and Robbinsville Township Firefighters as well as EMS were dispatched to the NJ Turnpike at 7:21 p.m. for an overturned vehicle in the area of Mile Post 57.9 inner roadway. There were initial reports of entrapment, but victims were out of the vehicle upon arrival of the fire departments and EMS. There were initial reports of two injuries that were evaluated by EMS but it was unclear if there was anyone transported from the scene to a local hospital. It appeared that there were no life-threating injuries in the crash. The New Jersey State Police is investigating the crash.
Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that a former physician has been indicted on 21 counts of narcotics distribution and fraud charges for illegally prescribing thousands of highly-addictive opioid pills out of his Bordentown Township practice while simultaneously engaging in an unlawful medical billing scheme over a three-year period.
Morris “Moishe” Starkman, 62, of Yellowstone Road in Cinnaminson, was indicted by a grand jury on fifteen counts of Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Second Degree), five counts of Health Care Claims Fraud (Second Degree) and one count of Insurance Fraud (Third Degree). The indictment was returned November 19 and signed by First Assistant Prosecutor Philip S. Aronow. An arraignment will be held soon in Superior Court.
Starkman was charged November 22, 2019, following the execution of a search warrant at his home during which multiple electronic devices were seized, along with business, financial and medical records.
The investigation determined that between January 1, 2015 and January 1, 2018, Starkman issued prescriptions through his Bordentown Family Practice for nearly 1,400,000 total doses of opioids, including Oxycodone (OxyContin, Percocet, Roxicodone, Endocet), Hydrocodone (Vicodin, Norco, Lorcet, Lortab), Oxymorphone (Opana), Hydromorphone (Dilaudid), morphine and fentanyl.
The eight patients outlined in the criminal charges filed against Starkman received 11 doses of opioids per day on average during that period. One patient alone was prescribed 17,460 doses, which equates to more than 15 per day. They each received anywhere from four to 10 times the maximum dose recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The investigation revealed that Starkman would perform – at most – cursory examinations on patients before prescribing large amounts of opioids without medical justification, consideration of whether his patients were benefitting from the prescription painkillers he routinely and repeatedly prescribed, or exploration of the underlying causes for their pain.
Starkman maintained inadequate records on his patients which failed to document treatment plans for pain management or opioid use, or provide a legitimate medical purpose for prescribing such high quantities for an extended period of time. The reliance of his patients on the highly-addictive opioids he was prescribing insured they would frequently return to the practice for refills and be charged for an office visit.
“Hundreds of thousands of Americans have died from overdoses and millions more struggle with Substance Use Disorder,” Prosecutor Coffina said. “In a great many of these cases, the person’s addiction began with prescribed opioids. Physicians who violated their oaths and patients’ trust by indiscriminately prescribing opioid medication without monitoring how their patients were doing on the drugs and whether they were becoming addicted must be held accountable for criminal conduct that has contributed to the destruction of lives and the relentless crisis of addiction so many are still dealing with.”
The investigation also revealed that Starkman, during that same time, submitted fraudulent health care claims to insurance companies for over $50,000 for services that were unauthorized, not eligible for reimbursement, not provided as represented or not rendered.
Starkman first came to the attention of law enforcement officials in late 2016 after an insurance company contacted authorities with a suspicion of illegal activity at his practice due to the high volume of opioid prescriptions he was writing.
The State Board of Medical Examiners temporarily suspended Starkman’s license in August 2017. Under a consent order reached in April 2018, Starkman agreed to permanently surrender his license to practice medicine in New Jersey.
Records seized from Starkman’s practice revealed that one of his patients fatally overdosed in May 2015, two months after his last visit to the Bordentown office.
The records indicated that during a visit in December 2014, Starkman continued to prescribe Oxycontin to the patient, despite noting that he was “slurring and falling asleep” during the visit. The following month, when the patient visited the office because he was “sick” and “ran out of all meds early again,” Starkman wrote him a prescription for a higher dosage of Oxycodone. During the patient’s final visit in March 2015, Starkman prescribed him 120 additional Oxycodone pills, despite noting that three days earlier he had been discharged from week-long stay at a mental health and addiction treatment facility where he had sought help for anxiety and panic attacks.
Due to insufficient evidence connecting his prescriptions to the patient’s fatal overdose, Starkman was not criminally charged in connection with the patient’s death.
Starkman is being prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Michael Angermeier, Supervisor of the BCPO Gang, Gun and Narcotics Task Force and First Assistant Prosecutor Philip S. Aronow.
The case was investigated by the BCPO Gang, Gun and Narcotics Task Force and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Diversion Control Division, with assistance from the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs Enforcement Bureau, the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield Special Investigations, and the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
An indictment is an accusation. Defendants are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.

10:00 a.m. UPDATE: According New Jersey State Police, Troopers responded to a two vehicle crash at 12:17 a.m. on the New Jersey Turnpike northbound on the inner roadway at milepost 54.1, Bordentown, Burlington County. Preliminary investigation reveals that a silver Acura RDX and a silver Toyota 4 Runner were traveling northbound on the New Jersey Turnpike northbound inner roadway when the Acura struck the rear of the Toyota. The Toyota struck a guardrail and came to an uncontrolled final rest on the northbound outer lane of travel. As a result of the crash, the passenger of the Toyota was ejected, sustaining life threatening injuries and transported to Cooper Hospital for treatment. This is an active investigation.
BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ (BURLINGTON)–Around 12:15 a.m. the Robbinsville Township Fire Department, Bordentown Township Fire Department, Burlington EMS, Robbinsville EMS and Paramedics were dispatched to mile marker 54.2 north bound inner roadway for a serious accident. There were several reports of an overturned vehicle with at least two people ejected and CPR in progress. A medical helicopter from Jefferson University Hospital known as JeffSTAT-1 was called and the New Jersey State Police closed the Turnpike to land the helicopter to transport one person by air to the trauma center.
The helicopter landed at 1:00 a.m. on the Turnpike and will transport one person to the trauma center by air. Robbinsville EMS along with Burlington Paramedics transported an injured person to the Trauma Center at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton at 1:00 a.m. and called a “Trauma Alert”
The JeffSTAT-1 helicopter left the scene at 1:11 a.m. and was taking one person to the Trauma Center at Cooper Medical Center in Camden.
Two injured parties did not seek transport to the hospital.
Avoid the NJ Turnpike in the area of Exit 7 due to this crash. There is a 1 to 2 mile delay northbound prior to the accident scene.

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–The Robbinsville Township Fire Department along with Allentown-Capital Health EMS responded to the NJ Turnpike south bound inner roadway at mile marker 59.2 for a multi-vehicle accident with injuries at 8:06 p.m. Upon arrival firefighters reported that multiple vehicles were involved and checking for injuries. At least four cars were involved, and it appears that two people were sent to local hospitals with non-life-threating injuries. Bordentown Township EMS also responded to the scene. New Jersey State Police is investigating the crash. No further details are available at this time.

Jenkins sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision.

From the scene it appeared that a tractor-trailer was either making a U-turn or left turn from south bound Route 130 to north bound route 130 and a vehicle collided with the box section of the tractor-trailer. CAMDEN, N.J. – A Burlington County, New Jersey, man today admitted his role in a GoFundMe scheme that collected money from donors on the internet, purportedly to benefit a homeless man, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig announced.
Mark D’Amico, 42, formerly of Bordentown, New Jersey, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Noel L. Hillman to Count One of an indictment charging him with conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
On March 6, 2019, two conspirators – Katelyn McClure and Johnny Bobbitt Jr. – pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering, respectively, in connection with the same scheme. They are both awaiting sentencing.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:
In November 2017, D’Amico and McClure created a crowd-source funding page on GoFundMe’s website, titled: “Paying It Forward.” The campaign solicited donations from the public, purportedly for the benefit of homeless veteran Bobbitt. D’Amico and McClure posted a story that McClure was driving home from Philadelphia on Interstate 95 and ran out of gas. Bobbitt acted as a good Samaritan and rescued McClure by using his last $20 to buy gasoline for her. The website stated that funds were being solicited, with a goal of $10,000, to get Bobbitt off the streets and provide living expenses for him.
The story told by D’Amico and McClure was not true. McClure never ran out of gas and Bobbitt never spent his last $20 for her. D’Amico and McClure conspired to create the false story to obtain money from donors based on false information. The false story was quickly picked up by local and national news outlets. The fraudulent campaign raised approximately $400,000 from more than 14,000 donors throughout the country in less than one month.
The donated funds were transferred by D’Amico and McClure from GoFundMe into accounts that they controlled. The majority of the money was quickly spent by D’Amico and McClure on personal expenses over the next three months, including significant amounts by D’Amico for gambling, as well as for vacations, a BMW automobile, clothing, handbags and other personal items and expenses.
In mid-November 2017, when the donations had reached approximately $1,700, D’Amico and McClure told Bobbitt about the campaign and the false story. In December 2017, after D’Amico helped open a bank account for Bobbitt, D’Amico and McClure deposited $25,000 of proceeds of the scheme into Bobbitt’s account. The charge of wire fraud conspiracy carries a maximum potential penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for March 28, 2022.
Acting U.S. Attorney Honig credited special agents of IRS-Criminal Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Michael Montanez, and special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge George M. Crouch Jr. in Newark, with the investigation leading to today’s guilty plea. She also thanked the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Prosecutor Scott Coffina; and officers of the Florence Township Police Department for their work on the case.

BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ (BURLINGTON)–Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Bordentown Township Police Chief Brian Pesce announced that a 25-year-old Trenton man has been charged with selling narcotics after an investigation led to the discovery of a brick of heroin, which is more than 50 doses, wedged in his buttocks.
Johmir Harris, of the 100 block of Hancock Street, was charged with Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (First Degree), Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Third Degree), Conspiracy (Third Degree) and Failure to Surrender a Controlled Dangerous Substance to Police (Disorderly Persons).
He was taken into custody November 4 in Bordentown Township and lodged in the Burlington County Jail pending a detention hearing in Superior Court. The case will be prepared for presentation to a grand jury for possible indictment.
The arrest resulted from an investigation into the death of a 29-year-old Bordentown Township woman who fatally overdosed last week. The investigation is focused primarily on whether charges are appropriate under New Jersey’s Strict Liability for Drug-Induced Death statute.
Harris will be prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Michael Angermeier, supervisor of the BCPO Gang, Gun and Narcotics Task Force (GGNTF).
The investigation is being conducted by detectives from the Bordentown Township Police Department and the BCPO GGNTF.
All persons are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
