Former East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company #2 Treasurer Indicted

TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–A former Treasurer of East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company #2, Michael Crismali was indicted by a grand jury on April 2, 2024. The indictment includes Second Degree Official Misconduct, Second Degree Theft by Fiduciary and Second Degree Theft by Unlawful Taking.

Count 1: Official Misconduct – Second Degree

The Grand Jurors of the State of New Jersey, for the County of Mercer, upon their oaths, present that MICHAEL CRISMALI
through a course of conduct from 2017 and continuing through January 2022, in the Township of East Windsor, in the County aforesaid, and within the jurisdiction of this Court, did knowingly commit acts relating to his public office but constituting an unauthorized exercise of his official functions, specifically while serving in the office of the Treasurer of the East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2, misappropriated funds of the Fire Company used them for his own personal purposes, including payment of his mortgage and bills, in an aggregate amount in excess of $200, and purposely neglected to report these transactions in monthly reports as Treasurer to the Fire Company,
contrary to the provisions of N.J.S. 2C:30-2, and against the peace of this State, the Government and dignity of the same.

Count 2: Theft by Fiduciary – Second Degree

The Grand Jurors of the State of New Jersey, for the County of Mercer, upon their oaths, present that MICHAEL CRISMALI through a course of conduct from 2017 and continuing through January 2022, in the Township of East Windsor, in the County aforesaid, and within the jurisdiction of this Court, did unlawfully take property of another with purpose to deprive them thereof in breach of his obligation to the victim as a fiduciary, specifically while serving in the office of the Treasurer of the East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2, misappropriated funds of the Fire Company and used them for his own personal purposes, including payment of his mortgage and bills, in an amount in excess of
$50,000, contrary to the provisions of N.J.S. 2C:20-3 and 2C:20-2(b){l)(t), and against the peace of this State, the Government and dignity of the same.

Count 3: Theft by Unlawful Taking – Second Degree

The Grand Jurors of the State of New Jersey, for the County of Mercer, upon their oaths, present that MICHAEL CRISMALI through a course of conduct from 2017 and continuing through January 2022, in the Township of East Windsor, in the County aforesaid, and within the jurisdiction of this Court, did unlawfully take property of another with purpose to deprive them thereof, specifically by misappropriating funds of the East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 and using them for his own personal purposes, including payment of his mortgage and bills, in an amount in excess of $75,000, contrary to the provisions of N.J.S. 2C:20-3 and 2C:20-2(b)(l)(a), and against the peace of this State, the Government and dignity of the same.

EAST WINDSOR (MERCER)– A former Treasurer of East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company #2 is facing charges after the Fire Company reported that he had misappropriated funds from the company, according to police.

On Sunday, February 6, 2022, the East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company #2 reported to the East Windsor Police Department that they believed their previous Treasurer, Michael Crismali, had misappropriated funds from the Fire Company for an extended period of time. Investigation revealed that Crismali misappropriated approximately $58,000 from the Fire Company at various times between April 2017 and July 2019.

Michael V. Crismali, 43, of East Windsor, was arrested, charged, and released pending court action. The charges have been forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for prosecution.
