Fatal Crash in South Brunswick Under Investigation

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ (MIDDLESEX)–Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Raymond Hayducka of the South Brunswick Police Department announced today that a fatal crash is under investigation at the intersection of Route 1 and Ridge Road.

Today, April 12, 2024, at 9:36 A.M., authorities responded to Route 1 and Ridge Road following the report of a crash. Upon their arrival, authorities located a Tractor Trailer which had struck a van in the intersection of Ridge Road and Route 1.

The van then collided with two other vehicles and then the tractor trailer and van caught fire. Three people have been pronounced deceased at the scene, their identity is being withheld till notification is made to next of kin.

Robert Stack, President and CEO of Princeton-based Community Options said a company driver and two clients died in the crash.

They were being driven to a day program. “Our heart goes out to the two people with severe disabilities who we’ve supported, and the staff person. Our prayers are with their families and all their loved ones. We are crestfallen and deeply saddened by this horrific event,” Stack said in a video statement.

Community Options serves people with disabilities to help them live normal lives and be independent.


Statement from Chief Raymond Hayducka on crash – “Today has been a tragic day with three lives lost in this terrible crash. My heart goes out to the families and friends. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”

Crews are currently working to remove the 50,000 pound slab of concrete off the truck involved in the fatal crash. Trying to clear and repair the highway. Route 1 is expected to open by 10 pm.
