TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–Around 2:49 pm the Trenton Fire Department, Trenton Police Department and Trenton EMS responded to Route 1 South Bound at the Perry Street Exit for an overturned vehicle with reported entrapment. Trenton Police blocked the right lane of the highway for safety. Trenton Fire Department arrived and the person was removed from the vehicle. TEMS transported one to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. No further information is available.
TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–Mercer County Prosecutor, Angelo J. Onofri reported that on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at approximately 1822 hours, the Trenton Police Department contacted the Mercer County Homicide Task Force to advise of a shooting that occurred in the area of 37 Sheridan Avenue. Trenton Police Department Officers heard the shooting occur as Sheridan Avenue is an adjacent street to Trenton Police Department.
Responding officers located the victim, Cheryl Jones DOB: 12/31/1955, laying on the front porch of 37 Sheridan Avenue. Jones was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Additional officers arrived on location and entered the residence where they observed the suspect, Clent Morris DOB: 07/17/1930, ascending the stairs to the second floor of the residence. Officers instructed Morris to drop the gun and come downstairs. Morris put up his hands and walked down the stairs. Officers realized Morris did not have a gun on him at that time. When officers made it to the second floor of the residence, a revolver was found on the floor by the steps. A gun holster was located by police on the front porch of the residence.
Morris was charged by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force with First Degree Murder, Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Second Degree Burglary.
Morris remains in police custody receiving medical treatment.
Despite having been charged, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
